Noni and Burns
There are three levels of burns, two of which can usually be handled in your home.
First degree burns involve only the outermost layer of your skin, called your epidermis. Sunburn and scalding from hot water or steam are a couple of examples of first degree burns.
Your skin will likely be reddened and painful. It can also be swollen. In general, if a first-degree burn does not cover a significant portion of your body, it can be treated at home. A first-degree burn, painful though it is, is the least serious type of burn that you can suffer.
Second degree burns are more painful and produce blistering or loss of some outer skin, while perhaps affecting underlying skin. A second-degree burn is one in which the second layer of your skin, called your hypodermis, is also burned. In this type of burn, your skin will be extremely red with a spotted or blotchy appearance, and you will probably have blisters in the area of the burn.
A second-degree burn typically causes severe pain and swelling. If you suffer a small and localized second-degree burn - no more than a few inches in diameter - you might be able to treat it effectively at home. If the burned region is larger than this, or has occurred on your face, hands, feet, groin, buttocks, or a major joint, it is best to go to your doctor or local hospital for professional care.
Third-degree burns involve all layers of your skin, and possibly structures that are below your skin as well. Some areas of a third-degree burn are often charred black. You may experience severe pain, but if a nerve has been damaged by the burn, it is possible that you will feel little to no pain. All third-degree burns require immediate emergency medical care. Third degree burns are the worst, going deep and possibly destroying muscle tissue. In the event of a third degree burn, you should call an ambulance or go straight to a hospital.
The following first aid tips can apply to first and second degree burns before getting medical attention. These tips are not recommended for third degree burns.
The treatment of first and second degree burns:
The first step that you should take to treat a minor burn is to hold it under cold, running water for 10 to 15 minutes. The constant flow keeps the water from warming up and literally moves the heat away.
If cold, running water is not available, immerse the burn in cold water or cover it with cold compresses. If practical, soaking the burn in water with a few ice cubes provides immediate relief. Use the ice to keep the water really cold for as long as possible, until the pain subsides. Never put ice directly against the burn - direct contact with ice can cause more damage to the burn area.
Noni Juice and Burns:
Noni Juice applied topically (directly onto the skin) will give relief from a burn, hasten the healing process and assist in cell regeneration. In addition, Noni Juice has analgesic properties, so it provides pain relief, and it also has antimicrobial properties to help in the fight against infection.
Experiments have been done on burns where part of the affected area has had Noni applied and part has not. The area of the burn treated with Noni has not blistered and has healed faster than the area not treated with Noni Juice.
For maximum results, soak a gauze dressing or compress large enough to cover the burn with Noni and tape to the affected area. This can then be covered with a dry dressing if required to protect clothes. Frequently replenish the compress with Noni Juice to keep it damp – that way the Noni keeps working.
In the Pacific Islands, traditional healers have used the whole Noni plant for centuries to treat all manner of ills and ailments. The juice from the Noni is their first tool as a burn treatment.
Noni is a good source of Vitamin C and other antioxidants, so in addition to being applied topically, Noni Juice should also be taken orally to boost and support the immune system, and thus repair the burn area all the faster from both the ‘inside’ and the ‘outside’.
In addition, Noni applied topically can also assist in the treatment of bites, stings and herpes.
Combination of Bad Habits Increases Death Risk
A recent article in the New Zealand Herald has reported that four common bad habits combined - smoking, drinking too much, inactivity and poor diet - can age you by 12 years, sobering new research suggests.
The findings are from a study of nearly 5,000 British adults for 20 years, and they highlight yet another reason to adopt a healthier lifestyle. Overall, 314 people studied had all four unhealthy behaviours. Among them, 91 died during the study, or 29 per cent. Among the 387 healthiest people with none of the four bad habits, only 32 died, or about 8 per cent.
The risky behaviours were smoking tobacco, downing more than three alcoholic drinks per day for men and more than two daily for women, getting less than two hours of physical activity per week, and eating fruit and veges fewer that three times daily. These habits combined substantially increased the risk of death and made people seem 12 years older than people in the healthiest group, said lead researcher Elisabeth Kvaavik of the University of Oslo. The study appears in the Archives of Internal Medicine.
The healthiest group included those who had never smoked and those who had quit; teetotallers, women who had fewer that two drinks daily and men who had fewer than three; those who got at least two hours of physical activity weekly; and those who ate fruits and vegetables at least three times daily. “You don’t need to be extreme to be in the healthy category” Dr Kvaavik said. “These behaviours add up, so together it’s quite good. It should be possible for most people to manage it”. For example, one carrot, one apple and a glass of orange juice would suffice for the fruit and vegetables cutoffs in the study, Kvaavik said, noting that the amounts are pretty modest and less strict than many guidelines. The US Government generally recommends at least four cups of fruit and vegetables daily for adults, depending on age and activity level; and about 2 1/2 hours of exercise weekly.
Study participants were randomly selected from another British health survey - 4886 adults aged between 18 and older, or 44 years old on average. Study subjects were asked about various lifestyle habits only once, a potential limitation; but Dr. Kvaavik said those habits tend to be fairly stable in adulthood. The most common causes of death included heart disease and cancer, both related to unhealthy lifestyles.
Noni and Aging
The anti-aging medical community believes that, as we age, our rate of diminished function is not inevitable. They advocate compensating for the body’s declining capabilities with lifestyle changes and nutritional supplementation targeted at optimum health for prolonged mental and physical capabilities.Knowing how and why our body changes with age will help us discourage alterations in cell, tissue, and organ function that slow us down. Since it’s not possible in this article to describe every alteration aging has in store, we’ve decided to concentrate on the major body changes that we may be able to delay — or even prevent — by living a healthy lifestyle, especially by eating right. The aging process can effect two areas of the body – health and looks, and in most cases one aspect of aging can effect both. For instance, exposure to too much sun can cause wrinkles and age spots (looks) and cause skin cancer (health).
There are foods that will help your body fight the damage caused by aging. If you can include them into your daily and weekly meal plans, you will absorb vitamins , antioxidants and other nutrients that will help the body to fight age-related illness and improve skin tone.

Noni - Is It A Superfruit?
There is a lot of discussion nowadays on “Superfruits”. Is there such a thing as a “Superfruit”, and if there is, what constitutes one?
It is claimed “Superfruits” are better for you than “ordinary” fruit and vegetables. They are claimed to make you smarter, slow down aging and/or help prevent diseases such as cancer and diabetes by having a higher number of antioxidants to fight the free radicals that breakdown cells and accelerate aging and disease.
Superfruits haven’t been defined scientifically, but it’s generally agreed that they are valued in their native country for their medicinal or health enhancing properties and that they have usually double, triple or quadruple the number of antioxidants than other fruits.

Noni Juice and Pets
Taking a daily dose of Noni Juice is as beneficial to pets as it is to humans. Adding Noni Juice to the food of dogs, cats and other animals has been shown to strengthen an animals immune system. As pets age, they experience the same kinds of health problems as humans. These can range from the usual ageing conditions such as aches and pains and diminished athletic ability to disease and illness such as arthritis, cancer, diabetes, degenerative diseases, infections and injuries. In addition, the average pet diet is usually comprised of low quality ingredients, many of which are rejects from the human food chain – or worse. A low quality diet compromises a pet’s immune system and lessens the ability to fight illness and disease.
Veterinarians who incorporate traditional and holistic animal medicine recommend a daily dose of Noni Juice to assist in the treatment of viral infections, worms, digestive disorders, food allergies, broken bones, recovery from surgery, and arthritis to name just a few. Veterinarians have experienced tremendous success using noni in treating pain, inflammation and as an anthelmintic or ridding animals of worms. The use of noni obviates the need for pharmaceutical muscle relaxants, anti-inflammatory and steroids. Noni enhances an animals immune system, joint health, circulation, digestion, and various skin conditions.
Noni Juice can be added to the diet of dogs, cats, birds, hamsters, pet mice and larger animals such as horses and cows to strengthen and support the immune system, assist in cell regeneration, boost nutrient uptake, offer digestive support and increase energy.
How Much Noni Should I Give My Pet?
Dogs & Cats: 1kg – 4kg : 5ml -20ml per day
5kg – 10kg : 20ml – 50ml per day
11kg – 20kg : 50ml – 70ml per day
20kg and above 70ml – 90ml per day
Small Pets:
Birds, hamsters, pet mice, gerbils: between 5 and 15 drops per day.
Large Animals:
Noni Juice is safe for large animals such as horses and cows. Start with 20ml - 100ml per day, then add an extra 15ml per 20kg of weight over 100kg.
Swine Flu, Noni and the Immune System
What is swine flu?
Influenza is a virus that infects people, birds, pigs and other animals. Swine flu, or swine influenza, is a form of the virus that normally infects pigs. There are many forms of flu, and the different varieties have the ability to exchange genes with one another. The form of flu that originated in Mexico is a genetic mixture of viruses that have been seen in pigs, birds and people. It’s being called a swine flu because the overall structure of the virus is of the type that affects pigs, said Keiji Fukuda a WHO official.
How do people catch swine flu? Studies are ongoing about how this particular swine flu is transmitted. Flu is generally transmitted through the respiratory tract. Droplets of infected body fluids may carry flu when people cough or sneeze.
What are the symptoms of swine flu?
About one to four days usually elapse between the time a person is infected and the onset of symptoms. Influenza normally causes symptoms such as coughing, sneezing, headaches and body aches, fever, chills, and sometimes vomiting and diarrhea. Swine flu causes the same symptoms, and may be difficult to distinguish from other strains of flu and respiratory illnesses. Severe cases of flu that lead to death are normally seen in very young and very old people whose immune systems are too weak to fight off the virus. Adults with severe illness may also have difficulty breathing, dizziness, confusion, or severe vomiting and diarrhea.

Sleep and Good Health
Historically, sleep was thought to be a passive state. However, sleep is now known to be a dynamic process, and our brains are active during sleep. Sleep affects our physical and mental health, and is essential for the normal functioning of all the systems of our body, including the immune system.
The effect of sleep on the immune system affects one’s ability to fight disease and endure sickness. Getting regular good sleep should count among the priorities for health conscious people. Sleep is a very important element of good health that is easy to take for granted in that it provides increased immunity against infections in general and is a boost to the immune system.
The importance of sleep to overall health and well-being is beginning to be understood more. Studies have shown that when people regularly get less than 6 or 7 hours of sleep each night, their risk for developing diseases begins to increase. Lack of sleep has been associated with worsening of blood pressure and cholesterol, all risk factors for heart disease and stroke. Your heart will be healthier if you get between 7 and 9 hours of sleep each night.

Let The Sun Shine In
Research has shown that a little more sunshine in our lives may make us live longer. Johan Moan, a researcher at the Institute for Cancer Research in Oslo, Norway, led a study which has concluded that the benefits from sun exposure outweigh the risks of skin cancer.
“What we find is that modest sun exposure gives enormous vitamin D benefits” says Dr. Moan. Sunlight encourages the body to produce Vitamin D, which helps the body’s immune system to work properly.
Several studies have found that higher amouns of Vitamin D actually protect against some cancers and conditions such as rickets, osteoporosis and diabetes. Some foods contain Vitamin D, but the sun provides the body’s main source. However fears about skin cancer are keeping many people indoors.
Many Cancer Societies around the world recommend a balance between avoiding an increased risk of skin cancer and maintaining adequate Vitamin D levels. They recognise both the very real benefits and risks of sun exposure and so they are very specific about advising on a safe number of hours to be in the sun and urge sun protection during peak ultraviolet radition (UVR) periods.
Enjoying time in the sun while maintaining sensible sun protection in the summer months, such as applying sunscreen and wearing protective clothing, wide-brimmed hats and sunglasses should not put people at risk of Vitamin D deficiency.
Noni Juice and the Heart
What is our Heart?:
The heart is a muscle located a little to the left of the middle of the chest, and is about the size of a fist.
The function of the heart is to send blood around the body and provide the body with oxygen and nutrients it needs, then to carry the waste away. The heart acts as an efficient, never ceasing pump. The right side of the heart receives blood from the body and pumps it to the lungs, while the left side of the heart receives blood from the lungs and pumps it out to the body.
In the average lifetime, a heart beats 2.5 billion times without rest. The average adult has about 5 litres of blood inside their body delivering essential elements and removing harmful waste. Blood is the fluid of life, transporting oxygen from the lungs to the body tissue via arteries, and transporting carbon dioxide from the body tissue to the lungs via veins. Blood delivers nourishment from digestion and hormones from glands throughout the body, and disease fighting substances to the tissue and waste to the kidney, and the hearts function if to transport the blood around the body.

Noni Juice and Pregnancy
We are often asked if taking Noni during pregnancy is safe or advisable. As far as we can ascertain, there have been no scientific or clinical studies on taking Noni during pregnancy. There is plenty of anecdotal evidence both in favour of taking Noni during pregnancy and against the practice, so what is the answer? If you are pregnant and do your research on the internet, you’re just as likely to be as confused at the end as when you started.
